Lifting a 2wd 89

My dad has recently passed and i have gotten his truck, it is in great shape but 2wd. 5speed 4.9 standard cab long bed. I want to lift it maybe 4-6in and put on some 33s. my question is one, anybody have some pics of this set up? also, can the same lift be used if i convert it over to stock 4wd? as in find a doaner truck and put the stock 4wd in place of the i beams. i know it is alot easier to buy a 4wd but there is a little emotional attachment to this truck and want to keep it in the family

i dont have a picture of mine, but i bought a lift kit a while back from rough country. came with spings for the rear and all the brackets for the front - radius arm brackets, and the two I beam brackets - plus springs for the front. i dont know if there is a different between the I beams of 2wd and 4wd.

The rear leaves are different between the 2wd and 4wd trucks. Not sure about the rest of the kit. I know that converting to 4wd is pretty much a bolt-in swap.

I would convert it to 4x4 first. Then maybe a leveling kit would be better than 4-6". You can fit 33" tires comfortably that way.

Yep 4x4 conversion is a bolt-up swap. I'm 18 and I recently did mine, so not too hard.

The suspension lift kits between 2 and 4 wheel drive are identical except for the rear spring widths. 2wd's have 2.5" wide rear leaf springs and the 4x4's have 3" wide rear leaf springs.

You will just want to go with a 2wd lift kit. The front end mounting locations are identical, so you can later convert to 4x4 with the same lift in the truck.

Thats what im gonna do to my 89 F250 2wd. And i also am gonna convert it to 4wd, but im gonna lift it first then do the conversion later. Although id go with 35s rather than 33s. especially if your going with a 6 inch lift

I strongly suggest to anyone considering a 4x4 conversion in the near future to replace basically everything in the donor's front end. That's what I did on my conversion. Had all the 4x4 stuff out of the donor truck and replaced all seals, bearings, ball joints, fluids, brakes, u-joints, radius arm bushings, axle pivot bushings, etc. on the TTB front end. It is so much easier and cheaper to do all that stuff when it is out of the truck.
