headers

Okay sorry for another stupid question, but a little help before I shell out the money. Looking to put long tubes on my truck 78 100custom with a 74 windsor . Can I put the headers for a 302 on this setup or do I need the headers for the 351W. Once headers go on it will be getting new exhaust work done. The oe starter for the 351 has been replaced with a much smaller one from a 96 Explore.

A 351W has a taller deck height than a 302 by 1.3 inches. If you can weld, then cut the 302 headers apart lengthen the tubes and pie-cut a hair to account for the slightly wider 351W.

Otherwise, shorty headers is a viable option.

Well there are several for the 1980's and up. I wonder what the dif is starting in 80. 4x4 got the TTB 4x2's stayed I beam but stamped over forged I think. Is the crossmember different? I dont know. It'd be nice to find a shop that would let you test fit a pair.

If you are going custom from the headers back, the 302 and 351 heads are the same. The only difference is that the 351 has a taller deck, not tall enough to make a difference if the rest of the exhaust is going to be custom anyways IMO.

So get some and go to work.
