Tie Rod end

Is there a special way your supposed to remove your tire rod end from the pitman arm? I know when I installed my adjustable trac bar it said to hit it with a hammer to knock it loose, to make room to do the trac bar, but that didnt work. Well the trac bar has been on, but I need to replace the tie rod end to get rid of some of the play in my steering wheel. Any easy ways, or special tools required to unlodge the two?

There is actually spreader tool for that. Its kind of a tapered fork. Usually, the auto parts stores will loan it to you if need it.

I just use a hammer... remove the nut to the end of the bolt. Wack it and remove...

You can buy or rent a Pitman Arm Tool at almost any auto parts store and spare your power steering box some blunt trauma.

Edit because I was wrong. Just got under there again and had a different person move the wheel easily with the key off, and you could see play in it. Now I just need to go get a new one. Gotta figure out which one I need now, because online at the local auto parts stores it shows many different ones and they all say the same thing. Most in stock, so Ill just bring them out one by one and compare.

This might sound strange but are you sure it is tightened in the first place? I had an issue with mine a few years ago and I found out mine was loose but I could not tighten the bolt because it would just spin. I put a bottle jack under it, jacked it back up into place and tightened it and it has been good to go ever since.

I can tighten it down no problem. The seal around it where you add grease is torn so im taking it that that caused the problem. Even if its not the problem, thats one more of the grease fittings thats busted I wont have to replace later.
