Can anyone tell me the difference in theses injectors? AP 60900 and AP 60901. I can get a free set of new injectors for a 03 (AP60900) . The local diesel shop has told me that I need an AP 60901 injector for my 07. Not sure what the difference is but I would hate to have a catastrophic meltdown! Free is good, but not a the cost of a new engine.
The thing is Alliant is not the OEM for the injectors, so I am not sure how much I would trust them. ford remanned are about the best you can get IMO.
Two changes after the early 03's were:
A revised clevis in the injector improves the lateral support of the plunger and dramatically reduces injector scuffing.
The injector plunger has had a DLC coating applied to it.
Ford states: Note: This injector has different operating characteristics and can not be interchanged with non DLC injectors. Installing the incorrect injector could cause erratic or rough engine operation.
That being said, lots of folks have interchanged the newer design w/ the older injectors and said it works fine. I have had no personal experience with intermixing them.
However, I don't think I would want to be buying the early injectors. Now getting them for free would be tempting! Do you have the time and patience to do the job over again if they don't perform like you would want?
