Edge CTS gauge question

I have the Edge plugged into my 2005 6.0 Excursion. I have 2 questions about it.

I was recently told that the Edge can cause communication errors with the computer, possibly causing start problems. I cant see how but is this true?

Looking at my readings my ECT rarely goes above 190, the EOT stay within 7 degrees of ECT and my trams stays around 165. How accurate is this gauge? Seems like 190 is a little cold, especially since that's a high. It usually is mid 180's. I do have a new oil cooler and EGR delete but those temps seem a bit on the cooler side.

The CTS will be as accurate as your sensors are, that is to say that the CTS is getting its values from the PCM. The CTS is just a window into what the powertrain control module is seeing.

I knew how it worked but question its accuracy due to what I've been told lately by the "experts". Techs here locally.

I'd doubt the thermostat before I doubted the sending unit, especially if ECT and EOT are within 2* of each other after a cold soak. Check that first, if ECT is reading 4-10* below EOT, swap out the unit. But if they're the same, two electrical sending units versus one mechanical thermostat.... I'd bet it's the thermostat causing the low temp reading.

The thermostat is set to start opening at 190*, so the engine naturally drifts towards that as a normal ECT reading. But mid 180s is very normal, some guys have reported that brand new out of the box thermostats run 186-188*. Mine levels out at 188* most days. If you did a coolant flush and didn't replace the thermostat, it could be starting to stick open.

Mine runs a little hot sometimes, ect 206 is the highest i've seen and that is easy city driving 2k rpm shifts. I have been told this is also normal. Seems like these trucks have varying tolerance ranges. I am also in florida and would rather it be running cooler.
