Thermostat

the past few months i have noticed that my truck doesn't ever get to the normal operating range, Im basing this off of the dummy stock gauge but for the life of the truck it has always warmed up to dead center of the gauge but now it only gets just above the bracket above the cold, so the low end of normal temps
my question is my thermostat opening too early or could it be a gauge fault? or am i reading too much into this?
thanks

Get a laser thermometer for about 40 bucks (I found an accurate tiny pocket unit at Radio Shack) and aim it at the thermostat housing. It should read about 160-180 degrees F.
