Injector cup R/R question
My chances of screwing something up increases when I try to fix something that hasn't broke yet. I'm sure once I'm many miles from home on my next job site, I'll find fuel in my coolant. That's just my luck....

Good to see you still around my friend.
1: E99 cup sealant is not as good as the new and improved cup sealant.
2: injectors are already out
3: Your at home and not a 1000 miles from home pulling you 5er.
4:Odds are that at 281k it is only a matter of time before one or more of them start to leak, then you will have to flush your cooling system
And when I get to the point of doing injectors, I'll be changing my cups even if they aren't leaking for the piece of mind. Just my 2 cents

1: E99 cup sealant is not as good as the new and improved cup sealant. Not an issue so long as you stay with standard coolant

I've worked on trucks with over 400k on them, factory in every way...
Cups are not a maintance item, kind of like a CPS, if its working, leave it alone, the next one may not last 500 miles.
I myself would like to avoid a possible problem in some cases by fixing something before it breaks. But case in point when I installed my T500 which I was replacing before it was a issue and for the fact that it was a 15* pump. Well since I had the pump out I said to myself this would be a good time to replace all the oil galley orings and installed the viton & 1 piece oring in the end plugs. Now most people never have a problem with them. But every now and then someone will have one of those o rings leaking. And I am not going to be that guy with a leakie oil galley end plug.
But I do believe you have a point about the next injector cup might not last 500k but there is no guarantee that the stock one is going to last either.
Now that I've had time to think about this, a cup is not a wear item, It either has a flaw or doesn't seal. I think as long as I look after my coolant I should be Ok. If there was a defect It would have reared it's ugly head by now.
At least that's what I'll keep telling myself...

I wonder if a coolant filter helps with the longevity of the cups by removing the abrasives
Cups come loose from the wrong coolant, or the injectors getting bound up in them...
The flow thru the heads at that point would not be an issue. A coolant filter is always a good idea, however I dont think it would help cups at all.
