Gentlemen, it seems as if my AE cable has sprouted legs and walked off. I have looked to buy a spare, but all I can find is the entire AE package. Any ideas on where I can find a new cable?

Do you need the adapter box,or just the cable? You can probably get a cable from Best Buy or Office Depot or the like, its pretty standard, the box on the other hand would have to come from AE.
My AE (version 10) cable is USB... standard off-the-shelf stuff (Standard-A-plug to Mini-B plug) at any computer department in many stores. Just make sure it's as long as you can buy. If it's not USB, what is it?
You must contact AE for a new cable. All cables are locked to the user by serial number, and cannot be swapped.
In other words, when you unlock your software by registering and paying through AE, the program finds the serial number of the cable and locks it in with the registration code. Then every time you run AE, the program checks the cable's serial number to ensure it's a match. If it doesn't match with the registration, the program won't connect to the vehicle.
This would be version-sensitive. I have the dongle, so that's the security on Version 10. I have used other cables on mine, so as long as I have the dongle... I'm all good (that just sounds sooo wrong).

my AE uses a regular USB cable to connect the laptop to the box you plug into the OBD port.
when my cable got pinched in the door of the car i just replaced it with a USB cable i had laying around and it works fine.

Thats the new version... The older one is an all in one unit.
If he lost the cord, it can be replaced. If he lost the connector, its time to pony up...
