That is the good way yes.a hammer and chisel.work the chisel under the edge then work your way around driving it up.not going to tear it up usually.
The spindle bearings are usually bad if axle joints are worn in my experience.if the stub axle surface is nice and smooth and ok the bearing most likely is ok.the axle joints if not loose or binding prob ok.but if u have any doubt now is the time to do them.
I did all 4 of his 60 ago...now all 4 are wiped out again....he needs to get by till we d60 his I hope...I have done enough it is no big deal and I have the tools at work and home to do it..gosh I love these trucks...
Aaron, I tried getting the ones out of the 250 parts truck yesterday, and couldn't budge them. I figured the taper of the ball joint had them spread too tight and the ball joint would have to be removed. The bushing is split on the back so it expands and tightens in the hole in the knuckle when the nut on the ball joint is tightened. So if I can get them broke lose, they should come out without removing the ball joint?
Yep Bill sometimes they are pretty stuck. My favorite weapon of destruction is my big air chisel...them slugs don't have much for it! Actually the upper does not have much taper, not like the lover anyway.
How is that project coming? Frame sure looks sexy.wish I could do that to my truck...just want it to last FOREVER!

I had an air chisel on them yesterday. The reason I want them out is, I put the 3 leaf front springs from the 250 parts truck on the 250 I drive, which had 2 leaf front springs. It brought the front up nice, but the top of the wheels lay way out now, so I was gonna change the bushings to get it back close to being aligned until I can get some other stuff done to it and get a good alignment done.
The project is slowly going. Putting a coat of semi gloss enamel over the Rust Shield tomorrow or next day.
Just looked at mine and I dont see anything that looks like a bushing that will come out, I have a D 60???
Randy,do u have the washer looking ring just under the nut for the upper ball joint? That is the top of the bushing if you do.the older trucks only had a small threaded insert that really didn't do anything I could ever see.
Nice! They prob have not been out ever.may need some persuation and pb blaster.and a bfh!
Don't think they have been out. I soaked them for two days with PB and used the air chisel and a BFH!......a lot of cursing too LOL!! Damn things are still in there! But, if you say they'll come out without removing the ball joint, then I'll get em out one way or another! I gotta get them changed before I wear the outsides of my tires off LOL!!! The truck looks all pigeon towed! LOL!!
We pulled them out of my 250 to get it alignend with the tire on even.I know they are supposed to haha...may need some dynomite.
How far is it out? Not sure u will get enough adj. They have bushings though that dang near move the stud to the edge.just hope drop pivots aren't needed.
Aaron,
No ring that I can see, just looked at them, even took some sand paper to clean up and I cannot see that there is an insert of any kind, looks like one pc of steel. I can take a pic and post if that would help?
I wonder y yours and mine are different? I know the older ones were different.you have my curiosity peaked.
i will snap a pic of mine.im baffled honestly.i try to not give advice unless im moderately sure i am correct.lord knows there is enough bad info out there.sorry
Aaron, sorry, mine do have the the bushing. Dummy me was looking on the knuckle and not the axle housing. When I went to put it back together, I found the bushing. Got lucky, couple taps and out it came, slathered it in anti seeze and back together. Hopefully the other side will be as easy. Thanks for the help, sorry for the wrong info.
