Doing ball joints on my d60, 100,000 miles, should I replace the spindle bearing? Axle ujoints? What would you guys do? I only put about 3-4000 mi a year on it, and very little 4wd use. Once back together, how do I know if the bj need shimmed? So far no shimms. I know there are a lot of discussions about properly aligning the front axle.
Maybe for the older king pin D60. I don't know of any shims for the ball joint D60. The D50 TTB has camber bushings the top ball joint goes through. They are different degree bushings, but I think the ones on the D60 just have like a flat side that fits against a half moon looking part of the knuckle. I'm not sure if there are different degree bushings though. If there is, you should still be able to retain the ones in it. I may be wrong though. I guess I'll find out for sure when I go through the D60 for my cc. Do you have a ball joint press?
What about getting the old ones out? A press make it soooo much easier!! You can rent them or, I have the whole set. You can even come up and we can do them in my shop one day, or you can use the press if you want.
The camber slugs you speak of ....yes they are changeable.but a good alignment tech will have to determine wich are needed.it is a combo deal that determines caster and camber.the bushings are turnable also depending on the individual needs for proper alignment.
Knocked the old ones out with a hammer, came right out no problem. Thanks for the offer.
What about that bed you pm'd me about back in June?
I was working on a deal for a couple parts trucks then, and one had a real nice 8' bed. The deal didn't go through though. I was gonna trade my Ranger for the trucks and some boot, but he didn't wanna give enough boot.

My 250 has the bushings with several slots, are those the one you called turnable? The 250 parts truck bushings just has one slot. So the D60 ones also changeable for different degrees of caster and camber then?
Ok...the middle hole is offset a certain bit depending on amount of change needed for camber.it can be turned to affect caster as well.the factory one is basically just in the middle more or less.years of abuse and wear can make a change be needed.
No the whole thing is not torn down to change.if we were smart (I'm not) we would mark them when we replace ball joints, clean them and the hole, lubricate.then if they need changed the alinent shop does not have to fight to get them out thus saving labor and money.once it is all together just the upper ball joint nut removed then the bushing can be removed.no biggie.
Also,if you have 100k on original ball joints consider yourself lucky.I get the joy of doing my brothers every 60k...at least they are moog so lifetime warranty...just too bad it does not cover my labor.love family
Mark it then remove, clean, lubricate and reinstall?? How do you remove?
100k and only one is bad, but gonna do all 4. What about changing the spindle bearing? How many miles are the axle u joints good for?

Aaron, I tried getting the ones out of the 250 parts truck yesterday, and couldn't budge them. I figured the taper of the ball joint had them spread too tight and the ball joint would have to be removed. The bushing is split on the back so it expands and tightens in the hole in the knuckle when the nut on the ball joint is tightened. So if I can get them broke lose, they should come out without removing the ball joint?
