My EGR valve has always looked this bad whenever I pull the thing. The bottom looks' mostly dry, and the top is always oily looking. I assume this is because of the oil from the CCV?
I haven't had any coolant loss since I have owned the truck. With the current work I am doing the EGR cooler was dry in the back. Truck parked nose up.
How often are you cleaning your EGR valve? When it's sooted up that badly and moist like that, it usually indicates poor combustion as a result of poor fuel quality used.
So what about the rest of the exhaust system? Would it look gummy as well?
I use Stanadyne Performance formula at every fill up. My ECT runs around 195-210 and EOT runs around 198-214. It takes about 20min of driving at 55-65 to get there as well. My FICM runs at 47+ volts when cranking and is 49+ while driving. AE won't read any higher. So unless there is anything else wrong with the FICM I don't think that's it. I get my fuel form the same place 99% of the time. I thinks they have pretty decent turnover, I see people filling up there Trucks ,and Volkswagen's all the time. This EGR valve also went in brand new 2 years ago. Someday a stealth EGR delete will happen. I live in emissions territory so it has to be done right.
Maybe your leaking dummy plug could have affected injector perfromance.
I do not idle any more than I have to. Whenever possible I have the high idle turned on. I will be checking the fuel pressure once I get it back together.
The ccv mod is something I have wanted to do for a while now. Bismic do you have the part number for the ccv housing that is on the valve cover? I have a different approach to the ccv mod that will involve modifying that piece.
