Hey ya'll,
my ole' girl's carburetor is slowly starting to give up the ghost. Now to be honest I don't know much at all about carbs and need some help. The tag reads "Motorcraft E2TE MA/A2 E 15" What kind of carburetor do I have? I'm having to decide between rebuilding/replacing it but like I said, I really have no clue where to start. My choke went out so I had to install a manual one, it's taking longer and longer to warm up, and it's starting to almost die out during acceleration, turns and such. Overall it's just kinda sluggish and blah. Any advice? Thank ya'll so much, like I said, I'm new to carbs and such so if I'm way off or messed up just lemme know. Thanks again!

Rebuilding the carb will probably help, but before I did that I'd check for vacuum leaks in the emission system and the intake manifold. Bad intake leaks are the bane of the 300 six, and the design of the intake manifold makes it prone to problems at high mileage.
I would definitely follow Wyowanderer's suggestions first, but unless that completely cures what ails you, I'd follow that with a carburetor rebuild. These Carter carbs are easy to do, I've done mine with no difficulty, and I'm far from an experienced mechanic. I have a thread with some pictures and whatnot (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...etor-help.html) that you might find helpful.
I got the GP Sorensen 96-395C rebuild kit that is *probably* the same for yours - I got it from Advance Auto for $20 or so. Double check with them that it's the right one before you take it home. Good instructions, had all the parts I needed, and there's plenty of people here who can help if you have problems.
The best way to check for leaks is to invest in a vacuum gauge. You can tune the carburetor, the ignition timing, and check for leaks/problems with a vacuum gauge.
The easiest sign of a vacuum leak... does it hesitate when you give it gas?
Check the bolts holding down the carburetor, the intake and exhaust manifold bolts holding the intake/exhaust to the head, might be a leaky brake booster (does it whistle/hiss when you turn the truck off?), bad gasket, etc.
Carburetor/throttle-body cleaner works great at finding leaks. Spray it where you think the leak is and the RPM's should go up when the engine draws it in.
It does hiss sometimes when I turn off but it always hisses as I press the brake. It doesn't really hesitate when I give it gas but it sure doesn't have hardly any get up n go
