My truck is still running rough. Because i plan on keeping this truck, it has me thinking about a scanner, not my limited use superchips. A real scanner would have helped over the last few days. I could have run a buzz test and perhaps avoided breaking clips which i figure will cost at least $100 to repair/replace.
Is the AE SP03 the preferred scanner. Is it a hand held, stand-along or must it be connected to a computer?
What investment $$ am i looking at?
The AE program is installed on a laptop or notebook with the bundle of your choice. SP03 is the Ford Bundle that will enable the AE to scan the Powerstroke.
Yes it's the greatest, cost varies according to what bundles you choose but around $400 for the Ford setup
Most people put the SOFTWARE on a laptop or notebook computer. I know I have seen one person who has a netbook with AE on it.
Rifraffdiesel.com Riffraff Diesel: AutoEnginuity Total Ford Enhanced Bundle
has AE for about 360$ You get free shipping on that item.
I want to purchase the SPO1 so I can also run the toyota module.
The sky is the limit on what type of laptop you purchase.

Napa sells dorman units called glowplug wiring harnesses that I have had for a few years without issue, IIRC they were like 25 bucks.
If you just want the codes and have an Android phone pay $5 for the Torque Pro app and another $20 or so for a bluetooth OBDII reader. Install the Ford PIDs on the app and you can read the codes. No buzz test etc, but a fair amount of diagnostics are possible.
the AE from Clay at RiffRaff has saved me and a few friends thousands in repair costs by not having to pay for someone to figure out what is wrong.
i bought a gateway laptop off ebay for $75 and use it just for the AE.
Another vote for AE w/ Ford Pack....should be able to get it for $360-ish. (Clay @ Riffraff has it.) You do need a laptop or notebook, I have an old laptop I use JUST for AE. Nothing fancy needed. AWESOME Scan tool, it has paid for itself time and time again...even helped a few other Strokers!
I have AE on a netbook with an Atom processor. I also have it installed on my uber-laptop with i7 (8 processors), 8 gig of RAM, USB3, and a 17" screen. I see absolutely zero AE performance difference between the two computers, so feel free to use the most basic computer you can find. My netbook has GPS, all my "Stinky" (the wonder truck) documents, and my gauge interface. The netbook is now a part of the truck.
So I did a search and found some. Which one did you choose? The Garmin 18X looks pretty easy while the DeLorme Earthmate looks cool but it is DVD based and I have no built in optical drive in my netbook.
[LINK] I've been using this for years (with the GPS bud on a USB cable). It has lists of things I want to find and it updates road construction data. It's very geeky, though - no driving at a 3/4 view like many of the others.
I removed the screws that hold the OBDII port in place, this allows me to tuck the interface up behind the dash when I drive (without it hitting my shin).
