Basically their all salesmen. The Walmart, autozone, Interstate, Optima, Sears and many others are all built by Johnson Controls. Look at the warranty and price and make your own decision.

At this point I want to know how each differs
and asking someone in sales is not going to give
a good clear answer. You don't get all the facts from
a webpage.
If fact it I went the way I really wanted to go I would get a set
wet cell Nicad. But then I would have to rework the charging
system and I really don't want to have to do that.

I believe the general consensus is you should use a starting battery to start the engine, and deep cell batteries to run accessories.

I've used Die Hards all my life, never replaced one. Only way to get rid f them is to sell the vehicle

Interesting... Odyssey = West Coast Battery, same as the OP's potential battery.

That's the equivalent battery I linked in Post #15.

I would personally stay away from a Marine or deep cycle battery for a diesel engine... UNLESS you are wanting to operate a bunch of accessories with the engine OFF. Like a stereo, lights, winch etc.

Even then I would question how well a deep cycle would crank over a cold diesel engine @ 0 degrees versus a regular starting battery, hybrid or not.

all the brands are decent. just get the best price vs. the warranty. I'm rocking Interstates with 8yr warranty right now. Got them from Firestone. They had a $30 off coupon. Look around for the deals

most important though: the biggest/highest CCA!!!!! I don't care if it's a rinky dinky 1.8 4 banger, I still strive to get a minimum 800 CCA battery if it'll fit. Bigger is always better IMO for batteries. Especially a high compression PSD

Hey all - I'm going to jump in here, I live on batteries and deal with them often (off grid solar home). From a quick look at the specs those look like they will work well in a truck. I see people mentioning marine batteries, just because they are blue does not mean that, these appear to be AGM batteries. Absorbed Glass Mat batteries a different than your standard lead acid or gel battery as they are sealed and a glass mesh has been built into the battery. A good AGM will out perform a standard LA battery all day long. As for constant charging hurting them that is just false, also draining to 50% is false as well, they will deal with it, but they do not like to be drained that far, 75 to 80% is much more realistic.

What AGM batteries like is LOTS of amperage as they have very high interal charge rates, they also have the ability to push huge amperage as well.

AGM batteries are used in aircraft and in other very demanding situations such as dc to AC inverting that pulls huge amperage for sustained periods of time, or in long term floats where the batteries are charged constantly for a period of years.

With that being said, I still would stick with something like Costco / interstates due to the price point and warranty.

But if you have a spare 800.00 for batteries I say go for it.

AGM is the standard battery in HD motorcycles. 103 cubic inches being push by that small battery. And some of the bikes now have as many lights and acc. as a freightliner.

Being manufactured by one company in no way shape or form means they are the same battery. Johnson Controls build the batteries to the specs given them.

Just because Shasta and Coke are bottled on the exact same line doesn't mean they're the exact same product and quality.

Dont know if anyone is interested in these but I went to Truck Pro which is like Autozone for big trucks. they sell a battery called True Power

DB880-65
CCA 880
CA 1040 ( have no idea what this means )
RC 150 (reserve capacity )

They were $97.99 each out the door with one year free replacement. Has anyone ever tried these in a PU. I use them in my big trucks with no issue and they seem to last. Think the last one I replaced was 6 or 7 years ago
