I was thinking about putting a thrush brand muffler on my 300 6cyl in my 94 F-150. Might cut the old crap off about 6 inches behind the cat and run a single in and dual out. Would that be a good thing to do or what?
Why are you asking us if you want a louder truck or not? Seems like that decision would be entirely up to you, No?
Loud mufflers on these old truck I6's just tend to make them sound like an old worn out UPS truck (..considering many old UPS trucks have 300-6s in them). Some people like the sound, I don't care for it that much - a modern high-revving I6 is a different story though.

My first truck was a 79, stepside long bed (rare one lol) with a 250 L6, removed intregal head engine, and installed rebuilt engine. Offy 4 bbl intake, 390 holley carb, hooker 2 piece headers, with thrush mufflers. I thought it sounded awesome. They lasted about 5 years. I thought they were a good value and sounded great.
If I still had my old truck with the 300 in it, I would either leave the stock muffler and cut off the ugly OEM tail pipe, or run something like a Dynomax Superturbo muffler to keep it fairly quiet. A mild sound exhaust on the I6 is alright, but a loud setup just doesn't sound good. Its your truck though, so make it loud if you want to.
I've heard several built up hot rodded I6's that sounded good, but stock ones just don't. They sound like a UPS truck.
