Another Shifting Thread
Alright had a little of the rough shifting when i 1st got my truck (4-2011) The TSB that came out in the summer or fall of the that year fixed it.
I had the non-recall ....Recall done over the nox sensor about 2K miles ago and the truck has shifted like junk ever since
I read the thread that got started around the time and see some people have the same issue
My question is how long does it take the computer to "learn how you drive"?
Now normally I drive like grandpa. I pull out slow and just enjoy the ride unless traffic or getting on the interstate makes me give it extra fuel. (95% of the time its easy driving)
Cold my 1st-2nd shifts are rough 2-3 is rough and 3-4 is too. When the truck warms up it gets a little better and shifts right 75% of the time but ever now and then 2-3 and 3-4 are harsh even being warm. I rolled through a stop sign the other day
truck had down shifted to 1st and I was rolling <5 mph and when I gave it fuel it almost felt like you put the damn thing in neutral reved it up and dropped it into drive!
My dad drove me to/from the hospital for surgery the other day and he commented on the harsh shifting (he felt the warm ones) Needless to say hes a die hard Chevy man and thinks its funny Old man even when as far to find a die cast Chevy Wrecker and have it towing a die cast Ford Truck and show my 15 month old that Chevy's have to tow the fords around LOL
I've got a FINE Ford dealer great people and always go out of their way to help. But its a 45 min drive one way and needless to say their loaners aren't nearly has useful like my truck. Plus I know they will drive it.....feel the shifting....re flash re set or what ever they do....drive it some more and tell me to go drive it for a few days and see what it does. & thats fine I know thats how it works but thats a lot of trouble for me cause I'll bet good money that it will go right back to these rough shifts unless Ford has updated the program
Next question... can I just unhook the battery and the truck forget "how I drive"? and try that myself
Last My fuel mileage was dropped 2. I though i was crazier than hell but since that last trip to the dealer I'm down a solid 2-3 miles per gallon. I've really been watching the lie meter and checking by hand and it is down. I got 14.5 HWY driving under 62 MPD pulling just a little over 1 ton. And I've only seen 17 to 18 empty
I've driven the same road time and time again and always get 21 or a little better.
The regens do seem like that are flashing up faster but its had to say for sure cause I know you can seem all and of course the passive isn't displayed anyhow
Give me your .02

All I can share is what I experienced with my issues and when they would crop up again.
My shift issues (2-N-3) and the semi-harsh 5-6 would take between 2000-3000 miles before it would reappear after a TCM flash when Ford was troubleshooting early into this issue (mid-2010).
We went through 3-4 rounds of that.
It finally took the shift solenoids repair this year to correct it for good 30,000 ish miles into ownership.
Felt like a brand new vehicle.
