I'm normally only active in the 7.3L forum due to the fact that the only Fords I have are three 7.3L vehicles, all being 2002-03 models.
As an upgrade to my '02 single CD head unit in my F250, I've just purchased a refurbed single CD/MP3/SAT (6L8T-18C869-AC) head unit which came from either an Escape or Mariner. I know that there are some wiring differences and capability differences between these two head units, and am hoping that someone would be kind enough to supply me with the wiring diagrams associated with my "newsd" player. Given the May-2006 manufacturing date stamped on the side of the unit coupled with my reviews of the '07 and '08 owner manuals, it had to have come from a 2007 vehicle.
The basic functions are working just fine, but in particular, I want to see if I can activate the Speed Control feature and certainly tie into the MP3 features via the AUX button. To take advantage of the new unit's features, I need something from which to interpret how to connect the unit into my '02's wiring scheme. Obviously, I know that I can purchase the wiring diagrams, or can even purchase a Haynes/Chilton's manual, but in all honesty, it's hard to justify spending that cash for all that info when all I need is the portion associated with the audio system.
So... if someone would be kind enough to help me out with this, I would be extremely grateful.
The Haynes repair manual only has wire drawings/colors for standard raido functions. The book states specifically that it can not cover every electrical drawing for every vehicle. The Haynes manual will not help you for what you want to know.
The speed control, from what I understand, is a speed-controlled volume adjuster. I've had that in a couple other vehicles, and what it does is adjust the volume of the stereo up or down as you increase or decrease your vehicle speed.
is there a grey/black wire coming off head unit in pin location 14 off one of the connectors? that wire has to get tied into the VSS signal from either the cruise module or ABS module. which should also be a grey/black wire pin 11 off of the ABS module. or pin 58 off of the PCM that should get your speed sensitive volume working. does your truck have a factory amplifier?? if not its looking like the aux feature wont work from the looks of the wiring diagrams.
danmansjimmy, thanks for the insight and investigation on this. I have managed to accumulate enough drawings to see how the gray/black wiring should be connecting, and I do have the complete set of 2002 wiring diagrams for my truck, so I should be able to translate easily enough to make that particular splice.
Regarding the factory amp... that's a no-go for my XLT trimmed truck. I might see if I can scare one up somewhere just to complete the package, but I also believe I can use some aftermarket harnesses to get the bluetooth/MP3 functionality installed, even if it doesn't utilize the AUX button.
I haven't been able to dig into the wiring yet... too many things are stacking up on me, but it will happen by the end of the year, even if I have to wait until I'm off at Christmas.
