I looked at the local junkyard for a steering box. They have one from a 92 F150, one from an 89 Bronco, and one from a 96 Ranger. Just wondering which if any will be compatible with my 91 F350.
They claim they all are, but I figured I would ask the experts not the salesmen. I haven't seen them yet, and they are all priced the same, so I figured I would buy the one of the best quality if they all will fit.
I'll be honest anything safety I usually just bite the bullet and buy a new unit, so I really can't say if it will work or not, I suppose you could try and read the part #'s off the unit. Or try napa to do a cross reference between the units
My 89 Bronco2 steering gear box is the same as my both F250 trucks I have. A Ranger gearbox I took off matched up with the F250's but the E-series van steering boxes I think are diffrent. So allmost all of the years(80 to 96) F-series should be the same including newer Rangers and Bronco2's. I think even the 91 to 95 Explorers are the same too.
When getting a used steering box. Check the pitman arm output seal for leaks. That's a common failure but can be fixed with a kit that is out in parts stores(aprx $20). It replaces all the seals for the pitman shaft.
