OK, My converter went out on my transmission a month ago..
Rebuilt the Transmission with a Triple Disk, shift kit, full rebuild.. Also Converted the truck to 4WD at the same time, because of the need to change output shafts.. I Cleaned out the lines on the cooler (Stock)
Now my Trans is getting hotter,, Around Town 190 ish unloaded..Just did a Test Tow with 6K behind it up a small pass and it got up to 225. Tranny feels fine, shifts properly, no codes.
My Tranny Builder, and another freind are saying its fine, but my reading on here are saying over 200 is BAD..
Ive got a 6.0l Cooler on order, but it may just be a band aid!
Do you have the same cooler on the truck from when the converter failed? If so, the cooler is probably plugged or at least restricted. The new cooler should fix that. I advise not driving the truck until you get the new cooler in, or you may trash the new trans.
And you can go up to 220°F all day long with no problems. Many people say 200°F is the limit, but they are wrong.

also said he cleaned out the factory cooler. I doubt it's not plugged.
Please explain... 200 may not be the limit but the fluid breaks down substantially after 200.
No it doesn't. Where did you get this incorrect information? Modern ATF is stable to over 300°F, not 200°F.
How was the cooler cleaned? I submit that there is NO effective way to clean an air to oil cooler. There are so many places in a cooler that can trap particles that there is no way to get them all out. A cooler flush machine will do a better job, but blowing the lines out, in either or both directions, will only remove the loosest particles. Most of what is in there will stay in there.
