What would cause the cab to rust like this about the drivers door? I see no holes in the roof. There is actually pin holes now above the wind shield too under the sun visor I know the body sat in a field for a year or 2
That would cause it.
When these trucks are built, all the metal is "spot" welded (AKA pinch weld). All the welding is done before any paint or primer is sprayed. Once welded together there is no way to get primer or paint in the tight joints between the metal BUT, moisture CAN and does get in to the bare metal. It starts as simple surface rust and over the 30+ years since it was built the surface rust turns into cancer and eats through the panels from the inside.
Sitting in a field compounds and speeds up the rusting. There is a lot of moisture coming out of the ground every day 24/7.
Hmmmm I have a spare cab that I am about to scrap... I think maybe I will cut it off the roof and save it in case I ever want a real resto fix.. I just filled it in with seem sealer and spray bombed it for now, it actually looks good LOL

I observed this phenomenon during my rig's make-over. It is caused by condensation forming on the underside of the roof... and if the rig is parked on tilt, the condensation will creep towards and collect on the low side against the roof seam(s) resulting in what you see there.
My rig was parked on the north side against the side of my garage... as the outside air warmed up, the interior of the truck did not since it was in the shade and experienced little if any interior air circulation... i literally watched the cardboard headliner slowly warp into deformity. I pulled it off one morning and saw that the entire underside of the roof was covered with huge droplets of water.
Think of a cold beverage on a warm day... condensation will form at the interface of a cold surface and warm air.
That's exactly the problem I have on the passenger side... I've been having a bit of a problem trying to find a local shop who can/will do that repair I even have a replacement
The Tiger something would be Tiger Dylac (spelling?). They make a product by the name of Epo Strong. It is a filler that is made for use under powder coating. Its a lot like liquid steel but better. I used it on my frame before sending it in for powder coating.
Most powder shops won't have a clue what you are talking about but tell them to talk to their Tiger Rep. It comes from Germany and the instructions are all in German.
It works great and sticks good. It will even bend without cracking. I am going to use some on my inner fenders rather than bondo.
I think there might have been sealer on top at one time that has gone away and let water in. Either way it's the kiss of death. You can fix it but it more than likely will be right back and there is probably damage done in the pinch weldes all down the rear piller and cab corner. By the time you'd fix all that you could have put a good southern cab on, nice ones without doors can be bought all day around my area for $300-$400 so it's not worth fixing as far as I'm concerened with no guarentee it just isn't going to come right back after doing all that work.

my gutter has about a 2 inch seam spot on drivers side and 1 inch spot on passenger, again I thought about welding it,but someone told me to try the water proof sealers.Im familiar with tiger drylac powders, not in this area though, thankyou for the input,HIO what did you do to address your roof to rain gutter issue?</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

My dentside's roof rails and gutters are okay at the moment. I stuffed insulation down the sides and lined it with an insulating pad... and I am currently don't have a headliner cuz it's all warped to hell.
It's my bumpside's roof rails and gutters that are corroded... I haven't done anything to them yet. It'll be a rat truck/test bed for now (to see if I can squeeze out 20 mpg out of an FE) but when the time comes I will likely replace the roof from the A-pillars up.
If your rain gutter's sealant is peeling or has gaps, dig it out and use 3M seam sealer. After application, it can be tool with your finger after it has been dipped in rubbing alcohol, lacquer thinner, or reducer. Let 'er set and it can be painted over.
