I'm just curious as to what causes the carbon chunks Ive had clog up my egr valve, twice before new valve and cooler and now once, with about 500 miles on all the new stuff.
Im sure ive read about it somewhere but I cant remember what causes this.
this is the chunk I pulled out today after BAD turbo lag and tons of black smoke. Its the biggest one ive pulled out so far, about the size of a small piece of gravel.
i run delo 15-40. I have never used fuel additives Before but I do have some of the motorcraft stuff. I forgot I had it stashed with my fuel filters. ill start using it from now on.
Only thing I noticed was on the bottle it says use 4 ounces per tank (or 30 gal i dont remember) but there's no measuring tabs on the bottle. Seems like a pain to have to use a measuring cup all the time. Anyone using this stuff have a quick way to measure it out?

That is what I was thinking might be the cause. I used to idle the truck quite a bit, until I started reading around here a lot. But that was about 2 years ago maybe a year and a half. Ive never pulled chunks out like this either, the last two times they were very small, more like flakes i guess you could say. Thats why this one got me thinkin lol
its only been on there about 500 miles. My old cooler was blown, does it seem possible that some of these chunks have survived in the manifold? By reading that article it seems like the cooler is leaking, but its so new it makes me think the stuff from the old cooler is still floating around in there. Unless I just got a defective part...that seems to be about my luck lol
I use Diesel Kleen Cetane boost. 1 oz per 3 gallons. I do it every fill up. Once I fill up I use this measuring cup/pour spout with its cap and on/off valve (real conveniant) to calculate and add the right amount (normally 10oz or 30 gallons in my 38 gallon tank).
