My '05 Escape hybrid has just over 79k miles and the original tires are down to just over 3/32" so it is about time to replace them. I have the OEM Continental EcoPlus tires on it and they have been good as far as I am concerned.
What tires have people put on their Escapes (hybrid or not)? I don't want to take a big mileage hit so I am thinking of staying with the Low Rolling Resistance tires but since my commute is about to be cut in half, I am not as worried about that.
What tires have people liked? What have you not liked? 95% of my driving is back and forth to work on local roads and some highway. If it snows more than a five or six inches I drive the truck.
Kumho Solus KR21 - Only tire we've had on ours that didn't last near the mileage that is listed. Looks like we may get 55-60k out of these supposed 80k mile tires. They were a fairly new tire when we bought them and there weren't many reviews so I thought it would be a good tire. There are many reviews now that say the mileage isn't good.
Wish I could help you on the ones we have used that did last.
My 03 XLS takes the P225/75R-15 size and you can easily get 75K out of these tires, one set I bought I got almost 80K. This is not a truck tire, but a tire made for SUVs. Traction is fair in snow, if that is a concern, but that is the trade off of a tire that will last a long time, and one made for traction. They also make them in the 16" rim size. Another great thing about this great tire is that it won't empty your wallet.
I've had Michelin CrossTerrains and they are good but pricey tires. I just bought a new set of Uniroyal Laredo's and have about 5,000 miles on them. They are very very quiet tires on the open highway and I really like that.
After buying a used 2003 Escape with worn Continental tires and reading all of the negative comments about these tires, I decided to go with something a little more affordable than my normal tire of choice (Michelin) and went with a Cooper Discoverer H/T. So far I am very happy with these tires. Great winter traction as well as summer ride. I have 18K on them so far and am pleased. Not sure how many miles I will get out of them, but the price was right from Discount Tire and Cooper had a $75 rebate program when I bought them. I ended up paying about $440 for all 4. Not bad in my book!
One comment to add about tires, make sure you rotate often (3-5,000 miles). I got lazy with my Michelin Cross Terrains and ended up with cupped tires and had to replace them with only 50,000 miles on them. They had plenty of tread but I couldn't take the howling noise any longer. That cost me some money.
BF Goodrich Long Trail Tour, usually check the prices of the local national-chain tire shops, then take those prices to walmart and have them price match (the national chains are usually considerably cheaper...discount tire and merchants tire, but I won't buy from them...that's a different story).
I ended up buying a set of Bridgestone 422's which are low rolling resistance. Ride is pretty good and road noise may have improved some. No noticeable loss of fuel mileage.Tire guy didn't believe that I got 80,000 out of the stock tires. Then he tried screw me on all the stuff he found wrong with my car.....worn out brake fluid, cabin air filter, three wipe blades. I politely declined the first time. I wasn't as polite when he started the hard sell.
I have had four sets of tires on my 05 Escape. The best tire I found was the Goodyear Fortera. Very expensive and very good. Because my driving changed dramatically I decided on a set of General's which are a good tire but picks up more rocks than a collector. If you got the cash go with the Fortera.
