I have been chassing an intermitent problem with my E99 PSD.
It would go for days with no problem then suddenly it would start surging at part throttle.
Acceleration was ok but you could not get it to stabilize when you wanted to go slow and steady.
I kept changing the programing and that seemed to cure it for a few hundred miles. Then it would do it again.
I happened to be working under the dash one day and thought I would spray the throttle position switch with some electric cleaner.
Wow! A new truck. It runs great and no more surge problem. Even sounds different. Starts right up and runs clean.
I didn't even take the accerator pedal apart, just gave it a good spraying down.
I bet that throttle position switch was really dirty. Probably been collecting dirt since 1999 when it was installed.
Now the problem it leaving it alone. I want to take it out an really clean it but am at a remote location in Alaska and am afraid it might fall apart and I would be stranded.
Any how, give it a try if you have intermitant engine problems. I is a cheap fix.
I am glad it cleared up your problem. I too have a E99 and never had a surging problem UNTIL I rebuilt my turbo and went with a 1.0 turbine housing. So I have been blaming the lag and surging on the bigger housing. But I must say that since I added the 1.0 housing this E99 pulls very strong now on the top end. It couldn't hurt to clean the throttle position switch see if that improves things any. Thanks for the tip !!
