I think the 6.2 will stay 2 valve for quite some time. The only reason the modulars got 3 valves is due to their really tiny bores, they had no room for big valves. So they had to add more valves in a effort to get them to breath well. The 6.2 has a enormous bore and has no problem fitting huge vales. The 6.2 is really a modern big block. The bore spacing also allows it to grow in size if / when needed.
Yes a 3 valve would be difficult with the dual plug design. The valves are quite large as they are. I think there are more gains to be made either with the cam or a slight increase in bore. I love the 6.2 but miss the bottom end torque the 6.8 3v had. With that said I don't miss the mileage I got with the V10. It was much harder on fuel than the 6.2 by a long shot.
Don't know about that rumor...but I try to avoid first year models. Which puts a new SD until 2015 at the earliest.
Good luck...

I agree, bought a 2011 f250 6.2l and have nothing but problems with it, major transmission issues with no fix in sight is the biggest one! Stay away from first year and maybe even the year after! The complaints don't start coming in untill the second year is already being produced, not enough time to change anything. Why were their updates to the 2013? that's right, for example everyone complained about the weak audio system in the 2011-12 and now 2013 has upgraded sony sound, and updated navigation, amongst some other things.

Incorrect. There were updates to the 11's and the '12's (job 2) made mid year. Sounds like you got a lemon...
I bet Ford went to the MFT system in the SD's to keep it in line with all of their other vehicles, making maintenance of that system easier which keeps costs down. Of course this is my speculation, but it seems logical. Ford doesn't care that some people, myself included, think the premium stereo in the 11's and 12's is garbage. That setup probably more than enough for most folks...
I bought a late 2011 model (June 2011) and my transmission hasn't seen the troubles the other 2011 trucks have. I wouldn't buy any vehicle on the release day of a new model, but purchasing a vehicle toward the end of the first year seemed to work out ok for me.
What ever Ford does all vehicles must meet CAFE standards starting in 2014. No longer will you see 8500# and above exempt for fuel milage rating. It will be interesting to see what has been deemed a minimum for mpg on these trucks.
My truck is a job 1 2011 built early 2010 (i forget the date) and it has not had any tranny issues and has only had 1 of the tsb's done on it. As to the sound system, yes I am not pleased with the sound quality from a system that has a sub and all. My 09 Escape with the std system sounds better.
I don't think a 3 valve 6.2L is planned. As the earlier poster pointed out, the bore of the 6.2L is large enough for adequate sized valves and a 3 valve head isn't needed fo good breathing. The 3 valve head was a 'band-aid' to get more power out of the Modulars. With the coming fuel economy standards, I don't think a larger version of the 'Boss' is likely. DFI is a possibility though.
The next generation Super Duty will be 2016 at the earliest. I have heard sketchy rumors that it will be a pretty radical departure from the current Super Duty. No specifics, but it is probably a safe assumption that it will be lighter and more fuel efficient.
I've been burned by the 1st edition models in the past, we're not collecting guns here! To the OP, I heard the same thing (about changing the line possibly next year) and that is exactly why I just ordered a f350 a couple of weeks ago. New doesn't necessarily mean better, in fact, it may hurt you on resale. TBH, I'm converting over from the diesel world, but having the last generation psd sure did help in it's market value.
OT, but that new Ford Atlas front end sure is something to die for......
