Today I finished a job that the previous owner attempted to start, as I installed a 3 speed Hurst Indy pick-up truck shifter (501 0016). The PO left me a hole in the floor, and a stripped bolt on the trans. Fortunately the Hurst shift kit came with everything I needed (as advertised) to connect the new shifter and linkage.
It went as easily as it possibly could have (great directions). I had to make one minor modification (drill out an extra 1/8 off of the inner hole on the brace bar of the mounting bracket) in order to get the hole to line up properly. Also I had to fiddle with the linkage a little bit to get appropriate clearance. The linkage connection as shown in the instructions was too tight.
If you have to do the swap, I recommend this kit. It's around 200 bucks from Atlantic speed warehouse.
Now, off to replace that stripped bolt....
There was a diagram in the instructions that was awful close. I just had to move each rod one notch over on the plates. I upload in photobucket.com (all pic sizes 650px x 650px or smaller) and copy and paste the IMG code into the message box.
I was thinking about going with this same floor conversion also. Im glad u did it and posted pictures. The only thing i was wondering is how tall the shifter is. Its kind of hard to tell by your last picture. Is there anyway u can take an away side shot picture of the shifter inside of ur cab? I just wanna see how high it sits. also can the shifter handle be flipped around or does it hit the seat?
It will fit a 62. Although its billed for 63 and up I modified the bracket and it fit my 62 "no tail shaft" Ford 3 speed. Clearance to the seat is tight but acceptable.
Sorry for the late reply. Work and Yard work had me strung out the last few days. Thanks for the picture. I think that this is exactly what im looking for. Even though were a lil ways apart on years (mine's a 76) your guide was very helpful. I just ordered mine from Summit Racing yesterday after seeing your last picture u posted. I just wanted to make sure they wernt too short and was sit right..
Not to be noisy but whats the stuff that you have covering your trans hump with. I think I have a roll of that it in my shed I bought from Home Depot a few years back. Never thought of using it as a cheap DynaMat. Ill bet it works great!
That's exactly what it is. Some recommend it, because it does the job cheap, some don't like it because it is petroleum based, and a pain in the *** to remove.
