Thanks for this Ryan! this is the same direction I am going in my 51. I have a T5 with an S-10 tail housing and S-10 shifter. Glad to see it works out ok.
Thanks! Tyler
Looks good. I laid mine across the anvil and beat on it with a BFH (cold).
Didn't want to burn up the little plastic sleeve thingy by heating or welding. Straightened it out pretty good....
How is it for function? It looks like it may still be a bit short and you'd have to reach for it. Is it more comfortable than it looks? Other than that, it looks great.
Question, can you reach it with a seatbelt on? I mocked up mine before I cut off the original shifter from my crash box and welded the two together (wrapped the plastic sleeve in a wet rag and had a buddy keep an eye on things to make sure I didn't weld too much continuously or too fast. T5 shifter alone was a confirmed no go with a seatbelt for me.
I tweaked the curvature of the T5 with a BFH (little warmed up but not glowing) a little and then matted both of em below the boot height (I got a stock rubber boot from MACs).
I advise you to seriously consider the height and ability to use it without hunching over / with a seatbelt on before you progress forward.
As much work as it was to get the mated angles right I also have to caution be sure you don't hit the radio in 3rd gear, or interfere with the seat in 2nd & reverse (I need to tweak mine a little more cause it touches the seat in R - no pressure, but it touches)
I have a T5 in my 49 F-3. I cut both my stock shifter, and the T5 shifter, then welded them together. It put the stock **** right up where the old set up was.
