When the new Super Duty's come out with the "Auto Up/Down" windows, will be it be possible to upgrade my current switches to the new ones? Is it as simple as installing the new switches or is there more too it than that?
I really like the automatic windows....thank you for your thoughts.
Or you can find the parts from a doaner vehicle and splice into your switches. Or wait for Ford to release the part number (which should be an existing in their system under the F150's).
I don't see it happening with just a switch replacement. The auto up/down windows all have a reversing motor in them that if they encounter any resistance above a certain threshold, they go the other direction as a safety feature. My windows do no have that. You can use them to crack walnuts.
Maybe a switch and a motor replacement will do it, but will it be worth it to you?
The motors in these window units are dumb; there is no intelligence installed in them. In Hoffman's case, the microprocessor is what controls the window motor. The one below has a load controller in it as well as a sensor determining if there is an obstruction and what needs to be done at that point (as in don't crush my arm if it's in the window).
I had a 2000 corvette at one time and bought / installed a product similar to this AutoLoc unit. It was a small plugg that plugged in to the OBD port and worked great. This unit has a bit more to it than that one, but I expect it would work about the same. It surprised me this does not have to be speciifc to the vehicle/computer though.
