I added HID fogs in place of the factory ez bake oven light bulbs. Drop in plug and play kit from Kensun. Worked wonderful for a while. After my last oil change, a wierd thing started happening. If the fogs are on with the headlights they work fine up to about 52 MPH. Over that, they start to flicker like there is a short in the wiring somewhere. I checked the connections...they look fine. If I slow down to under 50, the work just like they are supposed to. Bumpy road...no problem...under 50. Smooth as glass road, over 50, flickers like crazy.
I asked the dealer (who did the service) and he said he didn't see anything that could be causing it.
On that thought, when at highway speeds, does it still do it if you downshift a gear or two to bring the rpms up? And expanding on the inverse, what happens at highway speed and dropping the engine to idle by shifting to neutral?
Since it doesn't appear to be engine or alternator speed related, then it seems like an aerodynamic loading issue. Air hitting the headlight or grille is moving something and it's not happy.
Outside the box idea - the software controlling the electrical system knows the SD is above the speed threshold and increases output to the lights for highway mode versus a lower output "city" mode below 50 mph.
So, air/wind effecting something? Something losing temperature?
Are you sure the oil change had something to do with it? Did you change the oil? Did somebody else do it and move something?
Is the speed sensing volume control on in your stereo?
The speed sensing volume control is something I have not checked...hmmm. Have to try fiddling with the radio next time.
I just noticed it after the oil change (by the dealer). That could be coincidental. Can't imagine what they could have done to disturb it. It worked fine before though.
I did get the NOX recall/flash done a week or two earlier but didn't notice if it was malfunctioning since then. I do not run with the fogs on all the time...too bright...get flashed all the time.
