97 Power Stroke stalls idling, intermitant cuts out while driving.Always starts back up. F350 4x4 single rear wheel, e40d, 114000 miles. Goes in spirts, may not fail for a month or 2.
Thanks for the quick reply. I had it to ford a while ago for CPS recall, they said it had been updated. I bought the truck used.I just assumed it couldnt be the problem. Thanks again
ok so this is where i am now. my 97 f 250 powerstroke is starting and will idle for about 15 min. then die. it starts rite back up will idle for a few seconds and die.. you can hear a difference in the motor and injectors. one second it loud like a diesel under the hood and the next it quiets like the injectors are covered with insulation and the rpms go up.. then the loudness comes back and rpms drop.. lost on this. and i can be driving down the highway and it will feel like it kicks it self out of O.D. but the light doenst flash.. then it kicks back in and rpms drop back down and run. once the temp gets above the first white line on the temp gauge it runs fine

order the BAFX Bluetooth/WiFi code reader ($26 on amazon) it works with the FORScan (free) or (paid) app!! It displays code(s) if present. I would think a code would present with your symptoms. Works great for powerstroke. Best start to any diagnosis is a code. Many times I’ve researched and guessed replacing parts not needed.

My truck does this exact thing as well. Did you ever find a solution to your problem?
[***************]Went back through checked the harness. Could not find any noticeable nicks. Then I went to pull the chip and the wire had worn through on top of the emergency brake bracket. Wrapped it up and have not had trouble since. Granted it’s only been about 40 miles and 3 days...[/color]

sorry this thread must’ve been overlooked glad you got it figured out. Any loose connections or worn wires on the chips will cause serious running issues for sure
