So I recently put a Flowmaster orig 40 series on my 90' f150 n not much of a roar, but I heard they get louder after a certain amount of miles, have any of you heard or experienced this
No, it is usually mufflers that have some kind of sound dampening material in them that get louder when they have lots of miles on them. The Flowmasters have nothing inside of them but chambers and a wing plate, so they won't get any louder.
Chambered mufflers like your flow master will not get any louder over time. Mufflers that have packing in them like glass packs and turbo mufflers will, due to the fact that the packing will slowly blow out of the muffler. If you want a bit more volume but still want that chambered sound, you should look into something like the cherry bomb extremes
Do you have your cat converter on the truck still? Those usually muffle sound better than a muffler. I hope you have a V8 and not an I6 if you really want to hear it. Bigger pipe will also give a little more volume.
Well if he's just looking for more volume, why even waste money on a bullet? its just as loud with that $30-$40 chunk of pipe as it is without it. To really get any volume out of your motor, you're going to have to remove the cat though. If you have to get your truck inspected, they won't like that too much however. Im in a real rural area where we don't have inspections, I started with just a cat and no muffler and it was pretty quiet. No real growl or anything, and I was just running a Flowmaster 50 series big block muffler behind my 351w. All 3" pipe from the headers into a y pipe and out after the tire on the passenger side. It was real mellow in town but anywhere past 3k RPMs and it sounded mean as hell. I switched to the Summit Street and Strip (identical to flowmaster 40 for less than half the price) and it's too loud for in town to the point that my neighbor has called the cops on me when I first put it together to see how it sounded (he's not a real friendly guy). I don't street it anymore so it's not an issue. Point being that your cat is holding the sound back. But those 40 series mufflers scream at higher RPM's and might get you in trouble.
I'm go to put airplane mufflers on my F350. they are off a 550 cu in boxer engine. a couple of guys where I work have them on their trucks and they are kinda like a glass pack.
I was running just the cat and pipes before I put on the Flowmaster and I thought it was too loud. Whoever put those pipes on before I bought the truck used the smaller 2" pipe and ran duals off the cat, it looked good but was too loud and eventually the pipes rusted up so bad I had to do something with the exhaust.
