Question holley carb??

I have a 1983 ford ranger 2.8L v6 with the stock, electronic motorcraft carb(not the best!). I was wondering if anyone knew if i could put a Holley 300 or 350 cfm carb (or any other aftermarket non-electronic carb that might work better) on it and if so, if i would have to change the ignition sys. from the stock setup.
Also, if this is a possiblity, which i have heard it is before, where is the best place to purchase one of those carbs? Thanks in advance!

I believe Edelbrock makes an intake for this engine that accepts a 4bbl, and with an adaptor, a 2bbl. A 350cfm 2bbl would be a little large for this engine. You may want to pick up a Motorcraft carb with the number 1.08 stamped on the side of it. This is 287cfm 2bbl, found on older 302's and low-output 289's. This carb, properly rebuilt, should give better performance than stock for your truck. As far as ignition, I am not sure if they put DSII in the Rangers, or what other distributor will fit in there.
