I went with the Hedman Elite series. The build seems very good and the fitment was spot on. I have a picture below to give you an idea about the appearance.
I had a set of Hedmans with the ball and socket hook up and it sucked! Never would stay tight for more than a month or so. Almost just welded them up but went to another brand of header instead. They told me I needed to have hangers closer to the collectors , I had some in front of the mufflers and figured that should have been good enough. Maybe my engine moved too much or something, but I did not like them at all..
Interesting..... I was concerned about that as well. If that is a problem with mine, I will just cut off the ball and slip a pipe over the end of the header and weld it all up. The fit and build quality on the rest of the header was great.
I've got the Flowtech headers on mine. Don't remember the part number tho. Been running them for about 4-5 months now and haven't had any problems with them. Used copper collector gaskets btw.
Summit racing has a set for the 400 that fit well. It requires removing the clutch linkage and front driveshaft but they fit well once they are on and also sound great
The research I did said stay away from Flowtech and solid buys where Hedman and Hooker. I'll test them before I install.
I have the cheap flowtech headers 12540flt from Summit, I've had them on for a few months with not one problem, I would definitely buy them again. Sure they will not last as long as a 500 dollar set but they will last long enough for me
I went with a cheap pair of summit brand headers. Everyone said cheap ones suck because you always blow a gasket and leaks are unbelievable. The summit ones have a very thick flange and so far mine haven't had any leaks.
