Factory Carb Identification

Is there anyway to determine what factory carb was installed on my 1979 F250 400M w/ AC? VIN: F26SREG1678?

The VIN has no carb info, you need the ID number from the carb tag.

Tag is triangular shaped, bolts to the front of the airhorn. Do not be surprised if it's missing, many went bye bye years ago.

There's myriad different carbs used on 1975/79 F100/350 V8's, FIVE different carb kits: 49 states, CA only, Canada only, High Altitude only.

Without the tag, carb has to be looked up in applications charts, a royal PITA!

No tag, look on the Warranty Plate for the DSO code (3rd line-far right), post what it is.

Your '79 F250 4WD pickup was assembled in San Jose CA (R-5th digit of VIN), but that doesn't mean it was sold new in CA

Thanks so much for the help. The carb that is on the truck now is NOT the factory carb, I am sure of that. I will post the DSO code at lunch. I am not sure that the truck was sold new in CA, I bought the truck from a guy in AZ. However, it does seem to have all the CA smog stuff. I would assume it is a CA truck, but I don't know that for sure.

The Data Plate Reads:

133 S F263 DB4 K C7 06700 1979 71

The 71 code refers to Los Angeles, so I guess I am trying to figure out from the original list of carburaters... which one is for my 400M engine.

71 = Los Angeles (SoCal) Ford District Sales Office (located in Anaheim since the 1970's).

No such thing as a 400M, it's just plain 'ol 400.

1979 F250 4WD 400/C6 = Edit: CA makes a difference if M/T or Hi-Altitude, otherwise it's a 50 state carb (except 1979 F100 351M). 2WD/4WD makes no difference.

ID tag number: D9TE-ALB = Ford part number: D9TZ-9510-AL .. 2V Carburetor (Motorcraft CA-2132) / Obsolete

1979 F150/250 400 A/T with factory A/C // 1979 F150/250 351M A/T with factory A/C // 1979 F100 351M A/T with factory A/C except CA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ID tag number: D9TE-AMB = Ford part number: D9TZ-9510-AM .. 2V Carburetor (Motorcraft CA-2133) / Obsolete

1979 F150/250 400 A/T without factory A/C / 1979 F150/250 351M A/T without factory A/C // 1979 F100 351M A/T without factory A/C except CA

Factory installed integral A/C is combined with the heater. The A/C controls are in the same panel as the heater controls.

Thanks so much! My truck is entirely stock, except the carb. The choke is sticking, dripping gas, etc., so instead of fixing it, I would rather just buy the OEM carb.
