Just got a set of Hedmanns for my 76 F250 with a 460. I am deeply impressed with the build quiality and they fit very well. The ball and socket collector is a bit funky, but once you use one, it works great. I read a lot of reviews on the Flow Techs and they all indicated that they were not the best quality.
I just need to get a broken out header bolt out of the head. If anyone has any ideas go to my thread and don't off track this one.
I have heard good things from Hedman and Flowtech. I went with Flowtech. I haven't got to install mine yet, but I would say either would be a fine choice.
I have a 77 250 high boy and I just got some Hedman Headers, part #89360. I found the for $216 including shipping on autopartsnetwork.com, but jegs price matched me. Jegs ships fast and is a much more reputable dealer.
These are the uncoated ones. the coated ones cost more than double $$$.
I heard on here, and elsewhere, that the flowtechs really suck.
The flange and tube size that you give, is that the max size avaliable?
No.. Sanderson, JBA, and Doug Thorley (+ others) make headers with 3/8-inch thick flanges and 14g tubing.
My recommendation is the minimum. Cheap versions come with 1/4-inch flanges and 18g tubing .. certain Hedmans, Flowtechs, etc... Do your homework, compare, and choose wisely.
There are "street headers" but they either have 5/16th and 18g or 1/4-inch flanges with either 16g or 18g tubing. Good if you're on a tight budget but better quality and therefore cost, pays for itself over time.

I got the 5/16 flange size, but since I went with the ceramic coating I was told the 18g would be ok and I shouldn't have any problems.
The research I did said stay away from Flowtech and solid buys where Hedman and Hooker. I'll test them before I install.
Research is all fine and dandy, I'm just letting you know my personal reason why I didnt get Hooker. They are all fine brands of headers. Everyone has good and bad stories from every brand. I am sure your Hookers will be fine, as will my Flowtechs.

Its forums like this and similar that get the word out on good/bad vendor's and parts.
I appreciate the story about your Dad, that will make me pressure test the headers before I install.
I went to get headers for my 400. I called every header company I could think of and every one of them told me they didnt make them to fit my truck because I have the Dana 60 front axle.
