I am about to change out my exhaust manifolds on my 2002 F150. I was wondering if I should just put on headers instead. They advertise better gas mileage and HP. I spoke to a mechanic about it, and he told me that he didn't like headers, and that they were always blowing their gasgets. Thoughts anyone?
Copper gaskets seems to be the best. Thats the only ones that haven't blown in my experience, dont have headers on my 02 but my brothers 92 has gone 2 years so far with them

My thoughts are waste of time on a daily driven truck unless you have a specialized need for them. Usually the HP gain is in higher rpm range. Trucks want/need low rpm torque. The price of the headers alone usually waste any fuel savings they advertise. Then of coarse after installing headers most drive aggressively for fun and waste more fuel. Engines do look better though to me with headers on them.
