Starting my 76 Highboy DT360 swap
Got started to day on the tare down of the Highboy so i can try to get most of the swap done before heading back to school
Truck: 76 highboy 390, 4 speed, a/c, flatbed
Engine: 87 dt360 international, spicer 4054d 5 speed

Well didn't get as much done as i hoped but got the 390 out with the tranny, motor mounts, and all the crossmembers but the first so tomorrow I can set the dt in and see what all i'm going to have to do to make it fit.
Ok so the reason for the swap is so that i'll have a dependable truck to haul around all my other toys, so the DT will get the "A" pump turned up and a better turbo for the time being until i can get the kinks worked out then it'll be getting a P pump and more air

Cool swap. FYI, if you remove the entire front clip it makes things a whole lot easier. It's too late now but you can pull the whole clip in one piece with the inner and outer fenders, core support and grille all together. Then you have full access like this.

I hope you have plans to swap out the rear axle too, you're gonna need it to avoid this.

Yeah i was going to take the whole front clip off but it turned out the rad support is rusted to the point of trashing and i was hoping it'd help with showing what all will need modified.
Dang thats quite the break, i was hoping to get by with the 60 rear for a little while but i have a D80 in my mud truck that might be getting rockwells so i guess i'll see where it goes

Good idea. That was the result of a moderate 6BT, a heavy foot and bang shifting into third. It didn't happen the first time but it didn't take long.
Well not a lot to report tonight got cought up on the farm and had to work on the family's stuff, so only really got done with cleaning up the frame a little and removing the extra crap on the trans like the pto that's going to end up right in the way of the front drive shaft or i would've put a big old pto winch under the bed

Don't worry the oil is from when my brother tried to change the oil in one of the big trucks

almost a shame it's getting more use as a tool bench

Ok set it in as far as i could without any cutting or body lift to get an idea and realized just how much cutting its going to take without the lift, so kinda suck right now on what to do
this as far as I could go with the trans on before the oil pan was sitting on the front crossmember
view of the pan sitting on the CM

here's the clutch housing and mid engine mounts about 4" in front of the firewall but they should be directly under with where i want to mount it

A little bit of good news, it looks like the trans shifter should end up about dead center of the trans opening

and finally i pulled the trans in hopes that it'll make it a little easier to get the engine where i want it then make the trans fit some how

Anyone got any ideas or advice for a newbe like me?

The crossmember has to come out for sure. That's true of Cummins swaps also and I believe your engine is a bit bulkier. Some people modify the crossmember but I cut mine out completely and made a new one.
