i have a 2001 expedition and in order to shift from first to second i have to get to about 3000 rpms and let of the gas for it to shift also when i try to stomp the gas and go into my passing gear it revs up and either doestn move or if i'm in a lower gear just throws me back to first at a high rpm. i was told that it could be a modulator or that my detent cable could be to tight? does anyone have any idea what it could be or how to fix the problem?
It is probably not the modulator since there isn't one on your transmission. It also is not likely to be the detent cable since there isn't one of those, either. Whoever is giving you advice is a couple decades behind the times.
The first thing I always recommend is to get the codes read. This will probably cost a few bucks because the places that will read codes free can't read Ford transmission codes. Usually they don't even know they can't read them, try it, and tell you there are no codes.
