Cps problems?

I've got a random problem with my early build 7.3, only when it rains the truck 'hiccups' or stumbles if you will when driving down the road, I got into Dallas this last weekend and figured this out when a monsoon came through. For the most part it only did it when we were cruising but it did do it once when we were slowing down clutch in to make a turn it just died. Forgot to add every 3rd hiccup it would set a CEL that would
Disappear after a key cycle.

After some extensive searching I came up with or the best I could come up with was dielectric grease around the o-ring and plug connector, I did this and headed back home but it still hiccuped, I can tell you I have a black CPS but it's anyone's guess if it's motor craft or aftermarket as I've only owned the truck about a month.

What do you guys think about the run issue?

Next I picked up a CPS from a dealer, haven't installed it yet but it's the light gray one, all of the links in old threads are non existent I guess everyone burned through the black ones? I found one on fleabay and this crack head wants $250 for it!

There are a few NOS Black CPS's kicking around, but there are no retailers around that have them....a few of use hoard them when we can get them, lol

I would start by replacing the CPS... Do you have a chip?

No definitely not a chip, it could be programmed but I'd have no way of knowing. It seems to smoke an awful lot below 2k rpms but it's not like ohmuhjeez that's fast.

I cannot find that seller.... Link?

I am willing to bet it is the Dark Grey/Blue CPS (C) and not the original Black one. (A)

Your probably right ... one pf the pics shows the grey one and the blue one. Another pic shows a grey one with "made in Mexico". And another pic with what appears to be a black one with "made in USA" on the box. I use an eBay app on my phone so I don't have a link but this is the title- 7.3 powerstroke cam position sensor

7.3 powerstroke cam position sensor | eBay

Yeah, that's a Grey and a Blue CPS. I would not run a Blue one, but some say they had good luck with them.

It seems like they all fail......You would think after 10 plus years and a recall SOMEONE would come up with a reliable replacement or solution and market it as such. I for one would gladly pay $100 if I never had to crawl under my truck in the rain on the side of a busy road.

I put a BLUE ONE IN MY 2000 F550 in 2006 and ran it for 100K before the new owner had it go on him. I have not changed my new 2002 F-350 CPS yet. Likely just carry a spare.....until it does.
