I've had my truck since new and recently it has started doing something that it has never done before. I'm at 105 K miles. Recently, when I start it up it turns oveer for alot longer than in the past. It is turning over fast (not a battery issue). It used to start after 3 or 4 revolutions. Now its probably 12-14. It hasn't not started, but what could be causing the delay for it to fire off. Once running it seems to be normal. Any thoughts? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Pull the starter see what I had the exact same issues. As a matter of fact i talked to Blade35 and other and the long starting issue and nobody had a answer. Guess what?! Today i drove to work and when i went out to move my truck it would t start.
Pull the starter see what it looks like. I had the exact same issues that had been occuring for about 1 year. As a matter of fact i talked to Blade35 and other and the long starting issue and nobody had a answer. Guess what?! Today i drove to work and when i went out to move my truck at work a little later and the truck wouldnt start. The starter was working just fine. But would not engage the flywheel to turn over. I pulled the starter and there are three bolts. Where two of the three mount on the starter they literally fell apart cause the cast aluminum molding had broke off and the third was cracked as well. So the starter was positioned at a angle instead of striaght in which was not allowing the teeth of the starter or flywheel to immedately catch eachother. I couldnt believe. So i replaced the starter and it was a amazing sound to hear. Smooth and started right. Like a diesel should. Not excessive turnover and quiet when it started too. Not loud noises when it was turning over. Sorry for the long posts and no paragraphs.
It is an '06. The only work recently done is that I had my coolant changed and my engine light came on and it showed that there was direct short in my #1 glow plug so I had them replace that. I'm south of Houston, so glow plugs aren't really needed this time of year.
On another, and less important, note, any chips or programmers that you like without any other mods on the truck? I'm just looking for a little better throttle response, but have heard horror stories about head gaskets and studs not liking the upgrades.
