Newb here needs advice on possible conversion

Hello all, Have an important question and figures this would be the first place to start.

I own a 95 f-150 4x4 xlt standard cab..I won't get into the whole history of this truck and just say that the motor is shot and while it has sat, I have been restoring the frame and replacing lines, gas tanks etc..It has the 5.8 liter Windsor..Now as far as the engine is concerned I have looed at some options, Rebuild, Buy Used, Get a warrantied Jasper..Now the other side of the story and why I'm here..

Over the last year I have been starting a small business doing Home, Tree and Landscape maintenance. The two large pieces of equipment that I need to set me straight is a mason dump and at least up to an 8" wood chipper..

That being said, here is the meat..I just ran into a 1980 Ford f-350 mason dump that has a solid 5.8 and the dump is also in good shape..The body and interior are both pretty beat..But it's 1200.00 which is a deccent deal considering what I have been seeing these things going for..

So the question is, Is it possible and would it be worth it to buy the f-350 and basically take everything off that I can and replace it on my restored f-150 and turn it into a retrofit f-350 mason dump? Are the main components swappable? Thanks, Jay

If you want to take the parts off of the F350 and put it on your F-150 you would be wasting your time. the Frame and Axles on the F150 would probably barely handle the weight of the dump, much less any load on top of it. if you are going to swap parts i would take the cab and front clip off of the 150 anf put it on the 350. The 350 has a much bigger frame and axles that are able to cary a lot more wieght. Even if you swap the axles from teh 350 onto the 150 you would be wasting your time as you still have the wealer 150 frame.

Ok good point..

If I went the root of swapping the cab over is that going to match up with the year difference? Would I be able to also swap the 95 front fenders over as well? basically the entire body except the Bed..

Put the 95 from the marker lights to the cab on the F350 frame actually from the bumper to the back of the cab

Thanks a lot

You have really given me hope to get something up and going by spring now..Plus I really wanted to do something with the 95..I've owned it going on 15 years now and it will be great to still have a piece of it going. I am not too excited about the fact of paying the gas bill of the 5.8 but I do have a lead on a 1964 f-350 mason dump with 46K original miles that was always garaged..So that may end up being my primary.

Again, thanks for all of your advice..Take care
