In lieu of finding a proper one, you can swap the resistor board and float across from a hanger unit that doesn't have a pump. Takes a little finagling, but does work. I have refit some with the JC Whitney universal senders, but does take some messing around, as well as not being as simple as just swapping it out, accuracy is an issue, although the new one I got from Rock Auto for the 88 gasser reads empty with 1/4 tank in it, but I'm ok with that. At least I have an idea approximately how much fuel it does have

i ended up doing the same thing, kinda. went to my local junk yard and they had a 88 7.3l and a 87 gasser. i fulled the front sender on the 88 and its circuit was damaged just like mine. so i pulled the 87s front sender (totally different pump) and harvestested its circuit board. looks almost identical to the 88s sender (the part number is nearly identical too, ends with a A instead of a B). so ill put it in my trucks sender and see how that goes.
When I swapped the 92 to diesel, I used older hangers so I could at least have a pipe goo part way, instead of the plastic pump housing. Since the resistance is different between 92 and the older units, I transferred the resistor board across to the older hanger. With some of the older units, you can transfer the float and resistor as a unit. I haven't had any troubles with them coming off, but you could always spot a bit of glue or epoxy on the sender casing to keep it from popping off.
I have 86 f350 6.9 diesel and the part numbers are e5tz9275f and e5tz9275b. LMC has the rear tank but not mid mount. I am currently look for these sending units my lself.
