Fuel Sending Units

How Ya'll Are Today? I have been searching for diesel fuel sending units for the standard 86 f250 front and rear tanks...Seems like Ford nor any parts house carries them. I was told I would have to find something that would work from a different truck.

Anybody know what newer year truck would work that is available or a replacement aftermarket one that would work without having to do any mods to it?

Thanks

Does your sender have the two wires and just the sender on it?

Looks like a two wire plug that plugs into the top of the tanks.

Assumeing we are talking about the rear tank (aft axle), the part # is E5TZ-9275-B. It is no longer available from mother Ford. However, Artesia Ford in NM does show one in stock. The last of the bunch for sure.
Artesia Ford 1-575-746-3578

Fuel Sending Unit

Thanks, I will give them a call. What I really need is one for the front tank. Not sure if both are the same, but in case my rear tank unit goes out at least I will have one for the rear if they still have it in stock.

What I am trying to do is (as cash becomes available) to restore the truck (not back to original) but to everything in good working order and looking good.

I feel your pain. I'm doing the same with my 2000.If you can grab the stamping # off the front tank (probably E5TF-SA, but check to be sure) we should be able to come up with something for ya.

The diesel units are different because they have a return fitting, but no fuel pump in the tank. You have to stay with a 86-down type sending unit, because they re-did the way the gauges work on the 87-up trucks, and the sending unit resistive values are different. So your only hope besides getting the proper unit, is to get a regular 86-down gas unit and see if you can retro-fit the resistor unit onto your old assembly.

When you have it apart, also check out the pickup screen. The diesels had a large plastic "shower head" type pickup, and it likes to break off, and then you run out of fuel at about 1/4 tank. Most people get rid of this thing and put a FUEL hose on the end with a v-cut in the end of the hose.

Thanks Franklin2...I should have mentioned diesel...Is there a way to post info about my truck so it can be seen so I don't have to remember such things when I post? I'm kinda old school...not to much pc savvy...but I get by I guess.

Back in my heydays I loved 289 engines...Well same for the 6.9L diesel kinda for all the same reasons...mainly because it is usually easier to understand to work on as well as being very strong. In other words...simple! not all that high dollar stuff.

You did say diesel in your first post, and that's why you can't find one, because they are oddball. If you do find one, you will pay a pretty penny for it. That's why I said you might have to "fix" the one you have.

You are right Franklin2...they do want a pretty penny...close to two bills each...Well I bet I can build one using the old ones. Like you said...I am sure I can match the ohms, even if I have to use some resistors to get there. Or, I might sell my tanks and by a 40 gallon to fit in the spare tire rack and move the spare to the bed. The 40 gallon is cheaper than the sending unit and I can make the good one I have work in the 40 gallon. Might have to lengthen the float rod tho...

Did'ja call Artesia Ford in NM for the E5TZ-9275-B aft axle sender? If so, there are 3 more sources that have 1 each listed in post 10.

Notice that there are TWO different aft axle senders, one for the steel tank, one for the plastic tank.

Call around for the best price, obsolete parts prices vary wildly from one source to another.
