So sometimes my speedo needle jumps around when going down the road, not all the time, just sometimes. Goes from what ever speed I am going down to zero and back a coulpe of times and then it's fine. Sometimes it will do it then 30 seconds do it again. Sometimes it doesn't do it at all. At first I tought it could be from my new Edge Evolution programmer (never did it before i got the Edge). Then problem still there when I put it back to stock. Any ideas?
The edge could have very well caused the problem. I would contact Edge and they will send you a unit that will put the stock program back into your PCM. They will probably also send you a replacement programmer. I had an issue and that is what they did for me. Very good customer support.
It sounds like it was caused by the edge but it might not hurt to clean the VSS and take a look at the tone ring the next time you change the fluid in the rear axle.

X2, good call on the VSS. For what its worth, the Edge programmers are known to cause many issues with our trucks. Although they may be big due to the name, there are many other types of chips/programmers out there that are, in my opinion, much better. I have used banks and driven trucks with edge products and can say that the "custom tunes" from PHP i have no are much better. Just my .02 cents.
95 Dually I will get some and post them for you, Maverick, I will do that where is the VSS on the rear axle? I have never changed the rear fluid before, but I am sure the previous owner did. I have put 38K on the truck since I bought it. I guess it's time to do it. Ford 4Life, I only got the Edge because there was a old school Superchip in the side of the computer and over time it was lossing contact and making my truck die. Once I figured out it was that, I yanked it out and hasn't missed a beat. I called Superchip and they said I could trade it in on a Edge product. The Evolution retails for over $300 and I got it for $100. Only need it because we got a bigger travel trailer and wanted some extra HP up the hills. Seems to work good in tow mode other than the speedo jumping around that's the only problem.

the VSS is on top of the rear diff IIRC only one screw holds it in. Just pull it out, clean it off and stick it back in (I know...thats what she said hahaha).
The gunk tends to get stuck on the sensor as time goes on.
Also is your truck 5-spd or auto? I ask because a messed up VSS (if it is the VSS and not the edge) will cause issues with the auto transmission.
Here is one, a true DIY 6637. I did this before kits were available. Pretty easy but the hardest part was finding the elbow. Went to a big rig truck stop "parts shop" and they had them. In the end maybe a few bucks less than you can get from riffraff but if I did it again would just get the kit.
Chris, I forgot about the VSS,LOL. My first thought was low batteries or bad alternator (I had that problem) but then turned my attention to the Edge since he stated the problem started after he used it. The VSS sounds like the culprit though.
Jim, I like your DIY 6637 mod. I also did my own but in the end it cost more than Riffraffs kit. But I like knowing I made it myself. I have a pic in my album.
Maverick...I have an auto trans. Will tackle that next weekend...too much crap going on Sun p.m. smoking some ribs and a few beers are in order. Rebuilding a 69 Chevy stepside I got from my father-in-law too.
