My 1992 f150 needed mud flaps because it just got painted, and it has new tires that will throw rocks and chip the paint. so i bought some nice ford mud flaps and the outside of the flap will bolt onto the edge of the wheel well, but there is no where to bolt the inside of the flap to. what can i do?
in this picture:
it has plastic in the wheel well but mine does not its just has a bar coming down diagnally.
My DuraFlaps use a bracket that comes from the strut to the inside edge of the mud flap for stability. But they are made of a material that really does not require any other support except that along the wheel well lip.
You have to fab up a bracket yourself. I bought some light duty galvanized angle at the local farm and ranch store. It had holes and slots drilled in it already. I mounted it between the bottom lip of the rocker panel and one of the massive bolts holding my drop hitch on (might be a little far back for what you're looking for). That's been doing well for me, has been holding up semi truck flaps for about a year now with no problems. Good luck!

When you say mudflaps i'm thinking of real mud flaps, you guys might be talking about splash guards? A mud flap is big and, well flaps. A splash guard screws to the wheel well and stays rigid. (Yes, I see that duraflap thinks that a splash guard is a mud flap).
If you're just talking about splash guards, you can just screw them to the arch of the wheel well like the duraflap site suggests. Either leave the excess sticking into the wheel well or cut it off.
My mistake I guess.
I was answering this question:

I thought it was a question about mud flaps, not splash guards. My DuraFlaps are mud flaps. The splash guards just did not stop the rock chips. They were too small.
