The hot air choke is working great thanks to fmc400 and Number Dummy and I am finally getting around to installing the choke pull off which was missing when I got the truck. The exploded diagram in the ford manual show a "filter cap" on the end of the pulloff but this did not come with the new pulloff and I can't find one listed at the usual parts stores. My question is what exactly does this look like? maybe it would be in a rebuild kit? and what does it do? will the pulloff operate without it or will there be a vac leak?
Well as you guys probably already know can't get the choke pull off into the linkage with removing most or all of the carb at least I could not find a way. I did learn that it used to be much easier to crawl up in an engine bay that it is now ! So I am going for a complete rebuild probably next weekend.......I have fmc400's notes on the topic in front of me and hopefully it will go well if not I know FTE will help me through it! I could still use and answer to my initial question if anybody has the answer.

I apologize but I have not seen that before. Does your new pulloff seem to have a place for it? I'm not as familiar with that carburetor, but typically all the pulloff needs is a vacuum source so that it can slightly actuate the choke when the engine is running. Does that seem to be the case here?
As a side note, it's not uncommon for items shown in a rebuild diagram to be obsolete or done away with as modern replacement parts can consolidate multiple pieces, etc. Or, some items shown in a rebuild diagram may only apply to a specific and less common application that wouldn't have been installed originally.
Thanks for the input, the pull off does have a vacuum source and a hex adjusting screw? also there is a tiny hole in the end of the pull off itself but does not really look like anything would fit over. Your idea of a modified part makes a lot of sense. Here is a pic of the pull off. just FYI the carb tag is #D8TE AMA
It may be a case of "if its not broke don't fix it" yesterday while investigating the pull off linkage I made an adjustment to the ckoke and this morning it started on the first touch..of course it's already about 80 degrees here in SD! I will get a drive in later and see how far the plate opens after it is warmed up if it opens fully I will run it for a week and see how it does. Eventually I will install the carb kit and at that time the pull off, it seems to be a great system when all of the pieces are in place. But I might just drive it the rest of the summer and save that work for winter!
