2006 6.0 injector problem

So went on a little road trip yesterday and when pulling into my destination truck was idleing real rough so ran vehicle diagnostics on it with my banks IQ and it pulled up code P0278: cylinder 6 injector. So I have done alittle research and we wondering if this hotshots oil additive would maybe fix my problem but before I put that stuff in my truck wanted to know if it works or if I should just go ahead and start tearing er down and order a new injector any advise would be greatly appreciated

If you just have to try an additive then use Rev-X, not hotshots. Personally I'd say you'd be better off just putting a new injector in.

If it was me, I'd replace just #6 with a Motorcraft injector from the dealer.

X-4 replace the injector

I dont buy into the snake oil stuff

P0278 INJ Cylinder Number 6 Contribution/Balance Power cylinder, valve train or injector

Also would install the Blue Spring Updated Fuel Press Regulator

And change BOTH Fuel Filters if its Been Awhile Motocraft or Racor Brand

Also have you Updated the Standpipes and Dummey Pluga YET??? Now would be a Good Time since your going in

So I haven't put the new injector in yet because all of my friends that have had or still have 6.0's tell me that once one injector goes the rest aren't far behind is this true is it that there is another underlying problem that was not addressed when first injector goes and is replace???? I ordered the blue spring fuel pressure regulator and will change oil and all filters is there anything else I can do at this point to prevent anymore injectors from going out?????

install the blue fpr spring it will extend inject life

if this inject died from low fuel press then yes the others could follow

if you going to wrench yourself then just do one

if someone does the labor then might be worth doing 4 vs repeat labor to go in

there not that bad to change imo

I don't care for the 'mechanic in a can' approach either. Always look for a root cause and repair.

What could be the root problem be?? Just some ideas but could an injector just be worn out I mean my truck has 178000k on it and im pretty sure the injectors haven't been changed but anyway sorry I have a million ?'s I just want to absorb as much information as I can before I make my move also one more before I go what is the difference in a stock injector vs a stage II injector and also if I decide to go with a stage II should I change anything else?????

worn out inject possible or low fuel problem will kill them

if you go Bigger Inject your going to have to change alot of stuff like

ARP Studs
Tunner to balance air fuel mix
fuel system upgrades
maybe diff turbo

it might be a 5k hit even if you do work

I was generalizing. You may just have a worn out injector. Some cause for failure are; water in fuel, low fuel pressure, dirty oil, dirty fuel, leaking injector sleeve and likely more. With 178k mi, it may just be wear. When you replace it use a mirror and flashlight to look down the bore and inspect the sleeve. No need to apologize for asking questions, after all that's a primary reason for a forum.

This the route I would take if overall upgrade and/or performance are not on the priority list. Changing the injectors is not all that hard on the 6.0. If you do it once it will be much faster the next time if you lose another.
