Egr came out very easy(large channel locks). Can I use brake cleaner to clean valve or do's it have to be carb cleaner? Todd
What I read on another site was carb cleaner only... some chemical reaction thing???
The picture I saw was to fill a small glass with carb cleaner (take gaskets off of course) and let the EGR valve soak in it without getting the top electronic part wet with cleaner.
Here is everything you will need to know (parts and directions):
Mine wasn't very bad, I did let it sit in brake cleaner for about 5 min to clean the hard to reach spots. I put the old o rings back in, have new ones coming in tomorrow, and then fired it up and took a drive, didn't notice any thing new. My 04' f350 seems to be low on power on the bottom end so I thought I would try this first. Next the turbo removal and cleaning. ANy one have any other ideas? Thanks, Todd

Ford specifically states to NOT use brake cleaner. The brake cleaner WILL "wick" up the shaft and contact the shaft seal and soften it. Carb cleaner will not do this.
Again -
It is not just an o-ring isue or an issue with getting it into the weep holes. You need to protect these areas also - even when using carb cleaner.
VERY important not to get cleaning chemicals of any kind into the actuator through the weep holes!
