I was going to have my Fuel Filter changed along with my oil at the dealership, but they wanted almost $100 dollars to do it. The parts department wanted $40 for the filter. I saw at Riffraff the filter were only $18. The filter itself looks like it is really easy to do. Is there something additional that they are doing that I am unaware of? I feel that they have always treated me fairly before, but this seems crazy. Are there any words of wisdom to pass along? The Truck is 02 250.
Yea - I would tell them if they can do it for 50 - otherwise ,do it yourself- Takes about 5 minutes & this is something you have to do every 3 oil changes anyway. I would buy 3 or 4 filters & then you only pay to ship once.
I'm about to do mine for the first time and wonder if I have a stock filter and lid or combo so I guess I need to check? If I order just the filter and have a combo aftermarket lid/screen, will I need a new stock type lid?

Go look at what filter set up you have before you order the new one. I would go with an OEM with filter and lid. If you already have the OEM lid you will save some money and just buy the filter. If you need both the filter and the lid it will be a little more expensive but better in the long run. OEM filters are good quality, where as the aftermarket ones will span the whole spectrum.
Here are the part numbers for both, as well as a place to order them.

I prefer the OEM style filter with the separate lid but I keep some Baldwin filters in stock as well. Our trucks work across three states so we never really know which filter type it might have. Sometimes we go to change filter element only to find that the lid is incorporated. In those cases we just put in a Baldwin and send it on it's way.
100 buks aint all that bad, considering you dont have to dispose of the oil. Think about it, around50- 60 buks for oil, another 10 buks for oil filter, and last i recall, the fuel filter is at least 20-25 buks.
I wouldnt pay it, since i do my own oil/filter changes, but inna pinch or live in an HOA neighborhood, then itsnot a bad route.

Thanks!

IF the dealer wanted $100. for JUST the fuel filter replacement, run as fast as you can away from that place!!
Unless you are somehow handicapped you can change your own oil, filter and fuel filter-easy!
You'll have to get the fuel filter at a parts store, but you can get the MOTORCRAFT FL-1995 oil filter and Shell Rotella oil right at WalMart-I highly recommend the full synthetic 5w40 stuff-I have been running it for 4 years now in mine, always send in a sample to Blackstone and last sample was so good they recommended going to 12k miles next time!

I run the same oil Rick, and change it out at 8k towing, & 10K not towing with a filter change @ 1/2 life. I need to get a sample off to Blackstone to see what they have to say.

Frank, By all means get an oil sample done by Blackstone.
I don't know that you need to replace your filter at the 1/2way point though-my last oil report with all kinds of towing including the run to pick up the trailer in Ohio was real good, they recommended going to 12k this time-I usually add 3-4 quarts between changes, sometimes less.
