I just wad up some paper towel and shove it in the bowl and close the lid.
Kidding.
Thats a good one, wish it was that easy. I do have a filter/drier for my air compressor that uses a roll of toilet paper. Just put a new roll in every month or so. Pretty handy for an emergency dump too, LOL
Curious as to what kind of prices your seeing from your dealers on the filter only. I just called mine and they said 69.95 for the OEM (Thats carry out the door price). I was going to do mine tomorrow but for that price I'll wait another couple of days to get a couple from Clay.

I just changed my fuel filter and got a Purolator filter-it was about $25.00 WITH built-in top.
-Is therer any real advantage in using the filter WITH removable cap execpt price? IF I were to go back to this setup What brand of cap should I buy? OEM Ford? what about elements then?
100 buks aint all that bad, considering you dont have to dispose of the oil. Think about it, around50- 60 buks for oil, another 10 buks for oil filter, and last i recall, the fuel filter is at least 20-25 buks.
I wouldnt pay it, since i do my own oil/filter changes, but inna pinch or live in an HOA neighborhood, then itsnot a bad route.
I'm pretty sure he is talking $100 to change just the fuel filter... Which is about the going rate for a Ford shop to do. Remember... one hour min for shop time...
You are right. I was talking about just for changing the fuel filter. Sorry if that was not clear in first post. Thanks for all of the great advice and help!
I have it.
Purolator F59292 fuel bowl filter. (I kept the top of the package in the glove box.)
Thanks David The last filter installed was a Purolator and I meant to keep the part# but somehow I forgot to right it down or do like you did. Good thinking

The OEM filters from Clay are $18.00 + shipping. Even if you needed to get an OEM cap, which he sells also @ $23.00. that about $30.00 than the all in one.
From what I have read it seems most folks think their is nothing wrong with the motor craft fuel filter. I guess another way of looking at it is this. Say your on a trip somewhere and you run into an issue with your filter, it may cost you a bit more but you know you can always get one from Ford. With that said, I would also do the fuel tank mods and put an inline fuel filter in also.
My local dealer held a diesel seminar last year and I was invited because I spent so much money before I discovered FTE. They had a plethora of after-market filters on display for us to peruse over and they discussed how some manufacturers have filters that allow bypass, block outlets, don't fit, or just aren't up to specs. I looked at the hardware and I agree some of the products would do more harm than good.
The rules:
Plenty of clean air
Plenty of clean fuel
Plenty of clean oil
Anything that gets in the way of any of these three rules is bad juju. When in doubt, stay OEM until you learn of something others have done well with.

I saw those when I was looking for a drier. I ended up getting the centrifugal type.
