Hey guys first off I'm new to the newer F-250, had an old 88 and it was the best truck I ever owed.
Anyways I'm looking at a 2002 F-250 4x4 with a v10 140k miles with a lift for $13500.00
First question is really dumb but here goes, where do you shift this thing into 4wd and hi-low? It seems to me that I have seen the switch on the dash next to the a/c heat control but nothing on this one. The truck is at a used car lot and the guy told me it was AWD???? Just looking for someone to verify that I am not totally lost here.
Also the steering pitman arm on the steering box is loose and causing some slop in the wheel and the air bag light is flashing.
Work 'em on the price a lttle bit, seems just a bit high for a gas truck. Four hoof is engaged with a rotory dial to the right of the column or a floor shift depending on equipment. You will have one or the other-no AWD systems were offered. 2wd lift kits are out there. What cab config do you have? Most common SRS failure is the "passenger air bag off" bulb burns out in the shut-off switch to the right of the radio(crew cabs don't have said switch). You should see it come on when you turn the key on as the SRS module does a systems check. The blinking the warning lamp does in the cluster is actually flashing the code out to you, code 27 if its the airbag off bulb (count blinks-first digit, short pause, count blinks-second digit, long pause then repeats if one code or next code if multiple)
If there is no switch on the dash then its a shifter on the floor. (red flag one) Idon't think they ever made an AWD model. (red flag 2)The ABS light could get expensive to fix. (red flag 3)the fact that there is play in the steering box could mean additional worn out front end parts that add up quickly. And lastly 13,500 for a 10 year old truck, The miles are lower but you need to take into account that the truck is 10 years old. Depending on your area you can probably get a few model years newer. The 05 got significant upgrades to the suspension, 3 valve motors and much better transmissions! If your budget allows you can probably get a slightly newer truck for that kind of money!
Ok, I didn’t think ford made an awd truck. It is a 4x4, has a 8" lift, straight front axle, transfer case, ect. Not sure what they are trying to pull. Its a crew cab 4 door? not the extened cab and it has the air bag switch to turn the pass side bag on or off.
The price isn’t bad compared to what I have seen around here. So where do I find all these good deals on trucks like you guys are talking about?
Big thank you to you guys for replying also, I've been on forums where people would not give you the time of day for a stupid newbe question like this!
I've been spending a lot of time on craigslist looking for another truck. You can definitely find a better deal somewhere here in California. Between the price and the fishiness I'd keep looking.
